Anything can be justified if done poetically enough.
Oliver Marks has just been released from prison, having served ten years for the murder of one of his closest friends. A murder he may not have committed. He is met by Detective Colborne, who put Oliver behind bars. He is retiring, but before that wants to find out what really happened ten years ago.
While still studying Shakespeare at the academy, Oliver noticed: his talented classmates played the same roles both on stage and in life — villain, hero, tyrant, seductress — while he usually remained a secondary character in someone else's production. But one day the teachers force the students to switch roles, and the good-natured rivalry turns into ugly clashes, and the plots of theatrical plays come to life.
Eventually, a tragedy occurs: one of the seven friends is found dead. And the others face the most difficult acting challenge of their lives: to convince the police and themselves of their own innocence.
