Board chess came to us from India. In the 5th-6th centuries, it was a privilege only for wealthy Indians. Of course, the ancestor of the game was different from the chess we know.

In the 6th-7th centuries, people in Arab countries enjoyed playing board chess. The Arabs decided to slightly change the rules of this game. Now, two opponents met at the chessboard, not four as in the Indian version of the game. By abandoning the use of dice, the Arabs organized the system of moves.

In the 9th-10th centuries, board chess reached Spain, from where it gradually spread throughout Europe. Chess became a favorite pastime of royal figures. The court nobility, of course, could not resist the pleasure of playing their rulers' favorite game.

Today it is hard to believe, but at one time such a seemingly innocent game was persecuted by the church. However, church officials could not resist its popularity, which was conquering the world, so by the 14th century the ban on the game was lifted.

Over the centuries, the rules of the game changed and were supplemented. Later, the condition of controlling the time of each player's moves appeared.

Today, board chess is a popular sport. Every year, numerous tournaments, competitions, and championships are held worldwide for this game. Countless fans of this unique intellectual game regularly play board chess and appreciate it for the opportunity to train their thinking, memory, and attention.
